Job Overview:

Rutledge Jewellers is looking for a passionate and experienced Gemmologist to join our team.  We’re seeking a reliable, detail-oriented Gemmologist to become part of our close-knit team.  This role involves evaluating, grading, and authenticating gemstones and diamonds, supporting custom orders and educating our customers about their purchases.  To excel in this position, you should be a Graduate Gemmologist and have a deep knowledge of gemology science and current grading standards. Experience with traditional gemological testing equipment and a strong attention to detail are essential. Excellent communication, problem-solving, and customer service skills are also required. Assisting customers with sales is also required.

Responsibilities:

  • Identify, grade, and document diamonds and coloured stones
  • Provide excellent customer service by helping customers understand the quality and characteristics of their stones
  • Educate staff and customers about stone care, treatments, and ethics
  • Assisting customers with sales
  • Ringing sales through on the POS
  • Assist with sourcing gemstones for custom jewellery projects
  • Maintain accurate records and handle stone with the utmost care
  • Work closely with our jewellers and sales team to ensure quality in every piece
  • Stay informed about new gemstone trends, synthetics, and treatments
  • Perform gemological tests and evaluate the properties of precious stones
  • Use traditional gemmological testing equipment to assess stones
  • Maintain current knowledge of gemmology science and grading standards
  • Maintain a strong attention to detail
  • Appraise jewellery, knowledge of Instappraise preferred

 

 

The Ideal Candidate is:

  • A Graduate gemmologist from a recognized institution
  • Experienced with 1-2 years of hands-on practice working with gemstones preferred
  • Passionate for jewellery and working with people
  • Careful and precise with attention to detail
  • Comfortable working in a small, collaborative environment
  • Friendly and professional
  • Has strong computer skills
  • An excellent communicator, both verbally and written, and is fluent in English
