Who You Are
As an Assistant Florist, you will work closely with the main farm Florist to support the creation of stunning floral arrangements that are sold directly on the farm. Your role involves assisting with the cutting and sourcing flowers from our various gardens, preparation of flowers, organizing supplies, and providing general assistance to ensure the smooth operation of the floral
department.. This position requires a keen eye for detail, strong organizational skills, and a willingness to take direction from our farm florist, learn and grow within our floral department. You are able to work under pressure and deliver on tight deadlines, while still maintaining the highest standards of quality and professionalism. Overall, you are committed to ensuring that The Sunflower Farm floral department operates smoothly and efficiently.

Responsibilities
– Assist the main Florist in creating floral arrangements and bouquets.
– Prepare flowers by stripping leaves, conditioning stems, and arranging them according to the main Florist’s instructions.
– Clean and maintain work areas, including flower preparation stations, storage areas, and display.
– Setup of floral displays and take-down, ensuring timely and professional service with no supervision.
– Take inventory of floral stock and supplies, alerting the main Florist when supplies need to be replenished.
– Assist Floral Workshops in evenings – set up and organize workshop space, including workstations, demonstration areas, and display tables. The main florist runs these workshops but there may be opportunities for you to lead a workshop depending on your skill-set.
– Provide friendly and helpful customer service, assisting clients with inquiries, orders, and special requests.
– Learn and apply our standard of floral design techniques under the guidance of the main Florist.
– Follow safety and sanitation guidelines when handling flowers, tools, and equipment.

Qualifications
– Previous experience working in a floral shop or similar environment is preferred but not required.
– Basic knowledge of flowers and floral design concepts is advantageous.
– Strong organizational skills and attention to detail, with the ability to follow instructions accurately.
– Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a friendly and approachable demeanor.
– Ability to work effectively as part of a team, collaborating with the main Florist and other farm team members.
– Ability to work outdoors in a variety of weather conditions – majority of the time it will be hot, humid outdoor working conditions.
– Willingness to work flexible hours, including weekends and holidays.
– Enthusiasm for learning and developing skills in the floral design industry.
– Ability to work flexible hours during the planting season is an asset – ability to handle manual labour, weeding and maintaining our gardens throughout the growing season.

The Fine Print
– Hours expectation: approximate 20-30 hours per week, including weekends. You will be expected to work weekends and 2 days during the long weekend.
– Applicants must be available from mid/late July until the September long weekend – this is approximate as open date and closing date will depend on the sunflower bloom.

– Salary: $20-$25 based on experience
