Job Summary:
Individual must have knowledge of various carpentry techniques, and is responsible for layout, installation, repairing, finishing, and maintaining various structures, fixtures, and buildings. Other duties will include designing, cutting, and measuring materials according to a client’s requirements.
Responsibilities and Duties:
- Read blueprints, drawings and sketches to fully grasp requirements.
- Take measurements and calculate the size and amount of material needed.
- Cut, shape and smooth lumber and other material (e.g. fiberglass) according to measurements.
- Build window frames, doors, staircases, and frame buildings by using raw materials or pre-constructed items.
- Assess the quality of woodwork and materials.
- Assist supervisors with structural design, planning, layout, and installation.
- Lay out floorings, roofings or drywalls ensuring they are leveled and compatible.
- Carve and assemble furniture, cabinets, shelves and other items and install them where designated.
- Build scaffolding and other construction structures.
- Assist supervisors with all facets of carpentry.
Qualifications:
- Proven experience as carpenter.
- Hands-on experience in working with carpentry materials.
- Excellent understanding of carpentry techniques and methods of installation and construction.
- Proficient in using electrical and manual equipment (powered saws, hammers, rulers etc.).
- Ability to read technical documents and drawings.
- Ensure compliance with local building codes, and health and safety regulations.
- Good knowledge of English and basic math.
- Must have completed an apprenticeship in carpentry or have equivalent experience in the field.
- Must be willing to travel more than 2 hours.
