We are looking for the Camp Warden who is responsible for all elements of site maintenance; user groups’ needs, booking administration and related finances, and coordinating contractors and other 3rd party supports. The Camp Warden is responsible for supervising year-round and seasonal property students as well as working with volunteers and ensuring safety and well-rounded program delivery. You will work cooperatively with the Camp Ranger, reporting to and taking direction from Scouts Canada’s Property Operations Manager align property plan to Scouts Canada’s strategic plan and priorities.
Specifically, you will be responsible for:

Maintain Standards for Site Maintenance

• Working with property staff and volunteers, the Warden is responsible for regular inspections and assisting the Camp Ranger in maintenance of facilities and ensuring facilities meet Scouts Canada and legal safety standards
• Comply with, and ensure that camp users comply with Scouts Canada risk management procedures and Government regulations
• Work with property staff and volunteers to manage elements set out in the Camp Business Plan, and update as necessary
• Monitor on-site activities to ensure that safety standards are applied by users, committee members, and staff
• Conduct drinking water and sewage tests as required by the Ministry of Environment regulations
• Work cooperatively with local Police, Health, Fire, Environmental and Safety officials

Maintain Scouts Canada’s Assets

• Be wise in the use of our resources
• Prepare and manage the annual maintenance budget
• Provide input on a budget (operating and otherwise)
• Ensure the proper functioning of camp security systems
• Report any damage or concerns to the Properties Team, and execute an action plan to remediate the situation

Promote Facilities Usage

• Ensure positive experience by campers, including check-in and check-out, and providing facility tours when requested
• Support positive relationships with facility neighbors and local community
• Assist with the marketing of the Camp facilities
• Work with staff and volunteers to ensure mission-aligned programming and infrastructure is developed and delivered

Camp Administration

• Provide administrative support regarding camp bookings, provide excellent customer service to Scouters and other users’ inquiries
• Complete timely uploading of availability calendars to DoubleKnot as required
• Oversee schedules and tasks for students, and volunteers
• Conduct monthly review of financial status relating to deposits, balance owing and overdue accounts, work with the finance team to rectify overdue accounts
• Review and report on camp performance metrics monthly, and review with the Operations Manager and Property Committee Chair

Education, Experience & Skills

• High School Diploma
• Minimum 3 years of related experience
• Program development and delivery experience
• General knowledge of building and equipment maintenance and repair, and light construction
• Knowledge of applicable fire safety, environmental, health and safety and other legislation and procedures
• Knowledge of administrative and basic accounting practices
• Ability to use Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook
• Hold a valid driver’s license

Working Conditions
• Irregular working hours including evenings and weekends
• Frequent exposure to environmental conditions (rain, snow, heat and cold)
• Most work outside year-round
• Regular exposure to hazardous materials, including flammable gases, oils, paints, cleaners, and chlorine
