This position is funded in part by Canada Summer Jobs (CSJ), an employment program that offers participants the opportunity to improve their skills while acquiring practical knowledge in their chosen field of study. To qualify for CSJ, applicants must:
• be aged between 15 and 30 years old at the start of your summer job
• be a Canadian citizen, a permanent resident, or someone who has been officially given refugee protection in Canada and be legally allowed to work in Canada
• have a valid Social Insurance Number (SIN) at the start of your summer job

ABOUT THE WHITBY HISTORICAL SOCIETY
The Whitby Historical Society is a charitable, not-for-profit organization, dedicated to the preservation of history and heritage by generating public interest through community outreach and educational programs. The Whitby Historical Society operates the Lynde House Museum, providing interpretive tours and activities that support a living history experience, sustains and showcases an extensive collection of artifacts, and acts as an archive for both the written and pictorial history of Whitby and Southern Ontario.

POSITION SUMMERY
The Fundraiser will research and develop a new sponsorship program to generate funds that sustain the organization. They will research and contact appropriate corporate and private donors to support the sponsorship program, building relationships with donors to encourage repeat donations. They will promote the sponsorship program at various special events in order to find new donors. The Fundraiser will interact with a variety of internal and external stakeholders, including board members, staff, volunteers, guests and donors, so they must excel at communicating with diverse people. They may assist with set-up and take-down of special event booths and displays, as required.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
• Create and administer fundraising sponsorship program, including contracts and promotional materials
• Research, identify and cultivate relationships with sponsors to secure financial contributions
• Clearly communicate the organization’s mission and needs to potential sponsors through various channels, including public speaking and providing on-site event support, as required
• Manage advertising placements
• Track contracts, payments and deliverables to ensure all requirements are fulfilled
• Respond to inquiries from sponsors and the members of the public, resolving issues as required, in a professional and timely manner

PREFERRED SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS
• Student or recent graduate in Public Relations, Communications, Non-Profit Management, Marketing, Business Administration, or another related field.
• Capable of identifying appropriate sponsors and make well-informed recommendations.
• Able to develop positive relationships with sponsors, staff, volunteers, and the public.
• Possesses strong communication skills, email etiquette, and proficiency in public speaking.
• Displays a high level of professionalism with sponsors and members of the public.
• Organized, detail-oriented and creative.
• Exhibits pride in delivering high-quality work, and acts with a high degree of professionalism and sensitivity.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office 365, Google Docs and Zoom.

This role may include evening and weekend hours, as required for special events.
