Young adult male with a developmental delay and epilepsy (6-10 seizures/year) looking for a roommate who will provide daily living support in exchange for rent reduction. As his roommate you would share a new, furnished, 2 bedroom, 2 bathroom condo in Newcastle. Transit, library, groceries, banking and restaurants are all within walking distance. Underground parking is included. No pets, no smoking, no vaping.
The young man attends day programs Mon-Fri. Roommate would be responsible for supporting him in waking and preparing for the day, meeting him after day programs and supporting him into the evening/overnight. Roommate must be available to provide support 2 weekends/month. Some evenings he will have activities with other support workers/family.
Roommate would support him in developing independence with morning routines, with meal prep and clean up, with general daily living skills (including maintaining a tidy and clean home), with administration of daily oral medication, with navigation around his community, and with establishment of healthy routines. He is verbal and physically capable of doing most tasks – he is unable to read and write and therefore needs someone to prompt and remind him of activities as well as help him make safe choices.
If you are interested in this type of arrangement please contact for more info. There is some flexibility in the scheduling – rent reduction is reflected in how much support is provided. When support is provided outside of agreed upon hours (in exchange for rent) then the rate of pay will be $18-20/hour.
Vehicle is not necessary but would be helpful. Must provide references and valid police check.
Employment Type: Full-time
Field of Work: Nannies/Housekeeping
Familiarity with autism and/or epilepsy would be helpful.
Patience and understanding.
