Position summary
The Market and Education Assistant of TNDF, will work closely with the TNDF team and community at large to provide healthy, diverse, and safe food to community members accessing our food programs.

Working under the supervision of the Market Coordinator, they will ensure that the day-to-day operations of food related programs are carried out efficiently and effectively. The primary programs of focus for this position are the Mobile Food Market and Night Market, although support may be required with the Nourish House Food Bank, Maple Tree Community Garden, Community Kitchen, and/or education events and programs.

Position start date
August 22, 2022 (negotiable)

$35,000 – $39,000 annually

37.5 hours a week

Standard office hours are Monday – Friday from 8:30 am – 4:30 pm, however evening and/or weekend shifts will be required for this role, with advance notice given

Essential duties and responsibilities
Program Assistance
• Handle food inventory by receiving orders, picking up orders, and storing food, with close attention paid to safe food handling and minimizing food waste
• Serve community members at Mobile Food Market, Night Market, Nourish House Food Bank, and other community events
• Maintain cleanliness of the Mobile Food Market van and trailer
• Maintain stock and cleanliness at the Nourish House Food Bank
• Ensure that programs offer a welcoming and non-judgmental space for all people, at all times
• Set up and take down infrastructure for Night Markets and other TNDF events
• Conduct site maintenance at Nourish Hub, Nourish House, and Maple Tree Community Garden
• Assist staff in the promotion of programs, projects, and events

General Duties
• Establish and maintain positive relationships with existing and prospective community partners for TNDF, including schools, businesses, non-profits, clubs/groups, and individuals
• Communicate often with other staff members, fostering a team environment
• Actively participate in team trainings and team building exercises
• Participate in TNDF community events (i.e., fundraisers, etc.)
• Perform other related errands and duties as directed (within a 60 km radius of Cannington)

Minimum qualifications and experience
• Must have a valid driver’s license and access to a reliable vehicle
• A positive energy and a willingness to try new things
• Exceptional customer service skills
• A familiarity with Brock Township, Durham Region, and/or rural communities is an asset
• Strong communication skills, especially verbal skills
• Reliable, with an ability to work both independently and collaboratively
• An ability to do heavy lifting (up to 50 lbs) and withstand repetitive movements
• Familiarity with Microsoft 365 is an asset
