Position Summary
Reporting to the Manager, Digital Transformation, Architecture & Planning, the Intermediate Web Developer will help the team transform digital service delivery at the City.

With a focus on delivering premium frontend experiences to users, the Intermediate Web Developer will have direct input, involvement and responsibility for the design, implementation, and testing of components of the City’s internal and external web-based services.

This role work will make a difference to many people in the Kingston area.

KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Participate on project teams and contributes to the design and implementation of assigned components of web-based initiatives

Work closely with development staff and business stakeholders to understand operational and informational needs and help devise technology enabled solutions

Provide some day-to-day help publishing content to various websites

Apply knowledge of information architecture and web usability into designs

Maintain site configuration documentation

Develop web-based applications using a variety of technologies

Adhere to and develop development standards

Participate in issue resolution processes, effectively reporting status of progress and issues using assigned tools

Respond to assigned system maintenance requests and provide recommendations and action plans for conducting maintenance

Maintain strong working relationship with external service providers (technology consultants, technology hosting partners, etc.)

Perform other duties as assigned

Required skills:

Qualifications, Competencies
Degree/diploma in Computer Science or a related program

3 years of recent web development experience including front end web development and making web applications that store and retrieve data through RESTful APIs

Experience with Bootstrap, Angular 11+, HTML/CSS/Javascript, JQuery and JSR portal development desirable

Experience working with AWS serverless technologies, including Auroa, API Gateway, Lambda and Cognito

Experience developing to WCAG 2.0 AA/AAA standards

Experience or training in UI/UX design, Customer

Experience (CX) and/or journey mapping an asset

Exposure to backend development including REST API development, Node, SAML/SSO and working in context of content management systems such as Liferay and SharePoint

Experience developing no-SQL and/or relational database technology (Oracle, MySQL, MS-SQL, MongoDB)

Experience with configuration and administration of web/app server technologies (Tomcat, Apache HTTPD, Nginx, IIS, WAF)

Experience with test-driven development and/or continuous integration methodologies/pipelines an asset

Experience working within an agile framework (Scrum, Kanban etc)

Skills, Abilities, Work Demands
Understands web security and skilled at writing secure code

Understands DOM, frontend technology and frameworks

Passionate about learning, experimenting and trying new things. Able to take an idea from concept to working prototype with minimal direction

After hours work may be required to support project delivery and/or operational activities

Required to obtain and maintain a satisfactory criminal record check at candidates’ expense
