Job Purpose

The role of Construction Site Technician is to identify, assess and perform required repairs so that deficiency items are rectified prior to possession, while working in accordance with the high standards and integrity of the organization. The Construction Site Technician is an integral part of the RHC site construction team, and is expected to work in a collaborative manner with other members of the construction team, including RHC personnel, as well as trades and suppliers. The Construction Site Technician will reinforce RHC systems and procedures through proper conduct on site, while exhibiting maturity and self-discipline while carrying out assigned duties and tasks.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Follow and consistently demonstrate Reid’s Heritage Group of Companies Core Values
• Carry out general site duties, such as winter tarp handling, setting winter heat, general clean-up and disposal
• Fix and eliminate deficiency items before Certification of Completion and Pre-Delivery Inspections, including preparation for occupancy inspection
• Coordinate repair of deficiency items listed on Certificate of Completion and Possession, with Supervisor before (and after) closing
• Identify and assess construction deficiencies and perform repairs in a timely manner
• Prepare for inspection by City for occupancy, insulation and framing
• Perform drywall checkouts as required
• Ensure complete clean up, inside and outside, prior to QA and PDI
• Perform visual inspection to assess state of completion
• Develop a constructive and helpful working relationship
• Rough carpentry (i.e. framing, backing, bulkheads, repairs)
• Millwork installation and repair (hanging doors, installation of hardware, trim and build-outs)
• Repairs and finishing to fire assemblies, finish assemblies (drywall detailing, sealants, fire caulking, fire stopping)
• Assist with layout work for footings, foundation walls, partition lay-outs
• Carry out general construction duties to prepare for transitions in work between trades
• Carry out finishing work for interior assemblies (i.e. ceiling grids, partitions, doors/frames, conduit)
• Provide support functions to Site Supervisor and/or Assistant Site Supervisor, as required
• Participate in Health and Safety enforcement, education, and practice
• Communicate with construction team in a clear and concise manner
• Have a working knowledge of blueprint reading
• Computer literacy is an asset (Outlook, drawing plan readers, spreadsheets, word processor)
• Keep accurate and detailed timesheets and document issues that arise and forward to Supervisor
• Open and/or close job sites ensuring sites are safe and secure
• Possess and maintain tools required to carry out scope of responsibilities
• Travel as required to job site locations; some projects will require working out-of-town for multiple days

Working Conditions

• Standard hours of work: 44 hours per week
7:30 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. Monday – Thursday (½ hour unpaid lunch)
7:30 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. Friday (½ hour unpaid lunch)
(However, some sites require further coverage and, in that case, shifts may be staggered to accommodate those needs)
• Mainly works on construction sites in conditions that include dust, mud, heat and cold, inclement weather conditions and construction debris
• Safety equipment/apparel required:
o Hardhat
o CSA approved safety boots
o High Visibility vest
o Eye protection
• Work normally requires a low level of effort in organizing, writing and reviewing requests and
reports
• Valid class G driver’s license

Qualifications

• Completion of high school education is desirable
• Basic arithmetic skills are essential (for example, in taking measurements)
• Several years’ experience in commercial construction
• Knowledge of and demonstrated proficiency in multiple trades functions such as carpentry, drywall, painting etc. is a requirement, as is knowledge of various tools and equipment
• Excellent customer service skills
• Must have own tools
• Must have ability to read and write in the English language at a basic level
• Availability to work at various locations across the division

Physical Requirements

• Work frequently requires a high level of physical effort in walking, climbing, lifting, sweeping, and manual dexterity
• Work normally requires a moderate to high level of visual effort in operating machinery, using various power tools, hand tools and equipment
