Position summary
The Community Kitchen Coordinator at TNDF will work closely with the TNDF team and community at large to provide good food and food skills learning opportunities to the community. Working under the supervision of the Community Kitchen Manager, they will assist community kitchen and food access programs by processing and preparing food to be distributed to the community through TNDF programs, events, and/or partnerships.

Position start date
ASAP (September 1st at the latest)

$39,000 – 46,800 annually

37.5 hours a week

Standard office hours are Monday – Friday from 8:30 am – 4:30 pm, however evening and/or weekend shifts will be required for this role, with advance notice given

Essential duties and responsibilities
Community Kitchen
• Process and prepare food to be distributed to the community through TNDF programs, events, and or partnerships (i.e., food bank, Mobile Food Market, Meals on Wheels, Dash and Dines, etc.)
• Collaborate with the team to re-introduce and facilitate our community lunches program
• Help plan and run food skills related workshops
• Engage clients, volunteers, and the general community in the kitchen when possible
• Ensure that kitchen always offers a welcoming and non-judgemental space for all people
• In collaboration with the TNDF team and community, identify program opportunities for the kitchen and support with their planning and implementation
• Assist with ongoing kitchen maintenance, inventory, and clean-up

General Duties
• Ensure that kitchen initiatives and activities follow FANS (fresh, affordable, nutritious, and seasonal) values whenever possible
• Track kitchen data and provide reports as requested
• Provide kitchen program participants with information on other TNDF programs from which they may benefit (i.e., Mobile Food Market, Social Supports, Women’s Services, Community Kitchen, Education, etc.)
• Actively participate in staff meetings and team trainings
• Offer support and communicate often with tea members, fostering a team environment
• Participate in TNDF community events (i.e., Dash and Dine, fundraisers, etc.)
• Perform other related errands and duties as directed (within a 60 km radius of Cannington)

Required skills:

Minimum qualifications and experience
• Knowledge and skills in food safety, healthy cooking, and nutrition
• Experience in a high-volume cooking position, preferably in the community sector
• A positive energy and a willingness to try new things
• Proven initiative, judgment, decision-making and problem-solving capabilities
• Strong communication skills, especially verbal and written skills
• Reliable, with an ability to work both independently and collaboratively
• Creativity, flexibility, adaptability, and a sense of humour are essential
• A familiarity with Brock Township, Durham Region, and/or rural communities is an asset
