The Nourish and Develop Foundation (www.tndf.ca) is a charitable non-profit, located in Cannington (Durham
Region). The Community Development Coordinator provides program leadership around local community
development initiatives by encouraging community participation and capacity building. The Nourish and
Develop Foundation is thus seeking a very motivated and creative individual to fill this role. The preferred
candidate is someone who lives within a commutable distance to Cannington and has access to a car. This person
will oversee various community projects aimed at engaging local individuals and/or supporting local initiatives.
The work includes, coordinating and facilitating learning workshops, facilitating participatory projects such as a
Night Market, a Community Garden and organizing political engagement campaigns.
The full-time position involves 35 hours/a week (likely five 7 hr/days) with a compensation of $21.00 – $23.00
an hour plus health benefits after successful completion of the probation period.
-Coordinate and deliver knowledge to community groups interested in food cultivation or topics that
address the underlying causes of food insecurity and poverty.
-Nurture the expressed interests of community groups so that they can implement and possibly sustain
solutions to the causes of local food insecurity and poverty.
-Coordinate and support the membership of the Community Garden, Seed Library, Student Nutrition
Program and Night Market.
-Foster relationships with local businesses, institutions and/or grassroot groups of people to develop
-Ensure a safe, welcoming and non-judgemental environment for people (mostly low-income) to
develop awareness of and solutions to the matters they find most pressing (i.e. saving money by
-Research and develop programs that consider best practices and get buy-in from community
-Effectively monitor and evaluate programs and projects

Qualifications and Requirements:
-Education and/or excellent working knowledge of community development practices and projects
-Working knowledge of a community's or individual's project development towards self-reliance
-Knowledge in planning and executing learning programs and collective decision making among
-Relevant experience in working with low-income and/or people with varying abilities
-Knowledge of and shared values of community development, food insecurity and poverty alleviation
-Excellent communication, leadership skills, ability to plan, multi-task and manage time effectively
-Ability to work and empathize with people experiencing poverty/isolation/marginalization
-Great creativity and strong problem-solving skills plus solid project facilitation experience is required
-Familiarity with social economy practices and social innovation approaches considered an asset
