Job Description:
Do you love dogs as much as we do? I mean do you really love dogs?
Because we have oodles and doodles of dogs – all ages and sizes. Come and join us!
We are looking for mature & dedicated candidates who live no more than a 20- 25 minute drive from Uxbridge.
We are looking to fill a full time position that consists of 4-5 guaranteed shifts a week, with a couple of “on-call shifts” where you are scheduled as a ‘Plan B’ in case we need to call someone in last minute due to other staff being sick/ unable to come in as planned, or if the day is busier than anticipated. In general, hours will likely go up during peak times of the year, March Break being one of those busier times. Other busy times include parts of the summer (July-August), Christmas (December 15-Jan 10th), and long weekends.
The guaranteed shifts will be 6-9 hours in length. We are open 7am-7pm, so you may be working mornings and/or afternoons. The position is called “Camp Counsellor” and consists of dog handling/pack management. This can be a physically demanding job, and requires you to be on your feet for most of your shift. We also spend a lot of time outdoors, regardless of the temperature and weather. We are open every day of the year, which means we would need you to be available to work on weekends and holidays.
The position requires lots of cleaning (especially poop scooping), extra services (trail hikes, 1-on-1 time with dogs, treat/puzzle time, bathing, etc.), health checks, feeding, refreshing waters and bedding, and overall pack management/supervision. Communication is a big aspect of working well on our team, as there are many moving parts to our routine as well as the different ‘quirks’ we contend with for individual dogs and their needs. Additionally, there is a ‘client facing’ aspect to the job as well where you could be engaging with our clients during pick up/drop off times, and during tours when we are meeting new clients during the week.
All new candidates must work a 5-hour volunteer shift so you have hands on experience prior to accepting/being offered the position. This job can feel very rewarding, as there are many staff who thoroughly enjoy this job and have worked here for years at a time.
*Dog experience is an asset but not necessarily required. Candidates who have experience working with/owning dogs will be noted.
For more information or to apply, please email uxbridge@employmenthelp.ca or text 905-261-3895. Leave a detailed message with your name, phone number, and the position you are interested in and someone from our team will get back to you as soon as possible!
