Job Description:

Northumberland Community Legal Centre is a community legal clinic funded by Legal Aid Ontario and provides free legal services in poverty law to low-income residents of the County of Northumberland.

We are seeking an Administrative/Intake Worker to join our team for a 3 month contract on a part-time, 2 days per week (14 hours) basis, working on Monday and Friday each week. This contract combination position is available as of January 3, 2023 for a period of one year, with the possibility of a further extension thereafter. 

As an Administrative Worker, the successful candidate will provide administrative support such as client reception, answering the telephone, data input and data management, filing, clerical work, technological support and other administrative duties as required.

As an Intake Worker, the successful candidate will provide intake services: i.e. client reception, answer the telephone, assess client legal needs, provide legal advice, make appropriate referrals, prepare and review letters and documents, data input, maintain records and perform other duties as required.

Required skills:

• Superior computer skills (Word-processing, Excel and other software; technological problem solving skills)
• Proven skills in database management, including records searches and report production
• Post-Secondary degree in law or community college degree/diploma in justice, law clerk or paralegal program
• Licensee of the Law Society of Ontario is an asset
• In-depth knowledge of relevant legislation
• Effective written and oral communication skills
• Excellent analytical, organizational and time management skills
• Strong commitment to social justice issues essential
• Knowledge of community resources
• Ability to work with people in crisis
• Relevant work experience in legal clinics is an asset
• Demonstrated skills in CIMS is a significant asset
